Rio Verde Rafting Day Trip

• Meet us at 8 AM directly at our operational base in Cocorná or book an extra private transport from Medellín.
• Traditional Colombian breakfast at our favorite restaurant overlooking the spectacular mountain view.
• 1 hour 4x4 ride to the start point of the jungle adventure.
• 1.5 hour hike down the jungle canyon, accompanied by pack mules.
• River safety briefing on essential paddling, rescue and safety skills.
• 2 hours rafting from the Rio Verde to the Rio Samana on class III/IV whitewater.
• Mid-rafting break whilst enjoying a traditional lunch on a beautiful spot on the river.
• Explore and swim in a hidden waterfall.
• Raft another 2 hours and enjoy the biggest rapids right at the end.
• Finish at Puente Samaná and get changed.
• 1 hour ride back to our base, end of the activity around 5 PM.

Start-point

The tour starts here at our operational base in Cocorná. Near the restaurant the Palacio de los Frijoles on the Medellín-Bogotá highway. It’s easy to get there by public transport from Medellín or come in your own vehicle (free parking available).

If you're staying in Medellín, optional transport can be added at checkout, including pickup from Hostel Masaya or other locations. If you wish to organise private transport from another location please get in touch

What is the food like ?

Enjoy a traditional paisa breakfast at the Palacio de los Frijoles with a stunning view of the mountain range which gives birth to the river we raft down later that day.

For lunch, you will enjoy a typical Colombian meal: the Antioquian fiambre! A traditional packed meal from Antioquia, wrapped in banana leaves and made for days out in nature. Our fiambres are delicious homemade meals made by the local communities with fresh ingredients usually including rice, veggies, plantain, egg and meat. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy-friendly options are available, just message us!

Rafting runs all year round thanks to Antioquia's warm tropical climate. Expect hot and sunny days with temperatures ranging from 24 °C to 30 °C, but rain is always possible. The river stays at a perfect temperature for swimming all year so you will definitely be tempted to jump in more than once.

Keep in mind rafting is a weather-dependent activity and may need to be adjusted based on climate conditions.

What do I need to bring ?

• Closed-toe shoes that can get wet and with a good grip (no flip-flops/crocs/sandals)
• Comfortable lightweight quickdry shorts or pants
• Comfortable lightweight long-sleeve shirt or t-shirt

• Insect repellent
• Water bottle
• Quick-dry towel
• Dry change of clothes and shoes for after the activity
